Recently, I went to a consultation for a cosmetic procedure. I was so nervous about going and getting the treatment. It really gave me insight into how some people feel when attending the dentist.
I went to the consultation and spoke to the clinician. It was going well until towards the end. We were just speaking about the procedure when I felt the pre-syncope (pre-fainting) feelings coming over me. It felt like the room started spinning, I started to ‘grey-out,’ and my hearing went funny. I knew I had to lie down then and there or I would pass out. I let the clinician know, and my symptoms alleviated after a few minutes.
Later that day, I had to go back to have the procedure. Driving there, I had that cold-sweat come over me. I really didn’t know if I was going to be able to go through with it. The clinician knew I was nervous, so she took me straight in and allowed me to lay back. Once the procedure started, I could breathe knowing I had faced my fears, and the fear of pain I had imagined in my head was far worse than the reality.
Upon leaving, I had an immense sense of pride that I had gone ahead with the treatment and was very appreciative of the kindness of the clinician. It really made me reflect on how people with a dental phobia attend the dentist and all they must be going through just to walk in those doors.
Caring Dental Care Near Newcastle
I want my patients to know I have an understanding of some of the feelings they go through when attending the dentist. I will always do my best to be as supportive as possible and provide you with an environment where you can face your fears. I hope you can then reflect and feel that sense of pride when you have completed your treatment appointment.
Being able to provide that safe and supportive environment to our fellow humans is a huge factor in why Nathalia and I built SmilesHQ in Warners Bay. We look forward to meeting you and hope we can be a part of your story.
