Children's Dentistry in Warners Bay

ADr Nathalia Garritano with a young patientt SmilesHQ in Warners Bay, we understand a child’s first experience with dental visits can have a lasting impact on their attitude towards oral health. That's why we dedicate time to understanding their unique needs and ensuring their visits are filled with care and positive impressions that last a lifetime.

Your Child's First Dental Adventure

The journey into dental wellness at SmilesHQ begins around age two, which is a crucial time to start regular check-ups. Our dental team plans your child’s appointments to take advantage of their natural curiosity and help them learn about oral care in a fun, engaging environment.

Our goal isn’t just to treat your child today; with patience and understanding, we aim to become a trusted part of their dental development for the long term.

Frequently Asked Questions

We are always happy to see kids of any age although we recommend bringing your child for their first check up from the age of two. We like to keep children’s appointments fun and easy going to get them acclimatised to being within a dental setting whilst addressing any questions or concerns you may have.

An age-appropriate toothpaste with fluoride is best for your child to protect against tooth decay. There are alternative flavours available in many brands if your child doesn’t like the flavour of mint toothpaste.

Snoring, mouth breathing, and grinding can be signs of airway-related issues. At your child's check-up, we will assess their airways and take a history of breathing/sleeping patterns. We may also refer to an ENT for further assessment if necessary.

Children can start to lose their teeth from between the ages of 4-6. The first teeth to become wobbly are the lower front incisors, followed by the upper front incisors.

If you have any concerns about your child’s occlusion, we recommend bringing them in for an assessment. One of our dentists will be able to evaluate the need for potential orthodontic treatment and provide a referral to one of our local orthodontists depending on your child's needs.

Comprehensive Care for Growing Smiles

Ensuring your child’s baby teeth remain healthy until they emerge naturally is crucial to proper oral development. We emphasise professional cleanings and exams every six months to protect their smile from cavities and gum disease and monitor overall oral health.

Our preventive approach includes educating you on how to help your child develop healthy oral habits. We always take time to answer your questions about diet and nutrition or which toothbrush and toothpaste to use to make brushing a fun and effective part of the day.

As your child grows, we’ll share milestones like losing baby teeth and gaining adult teeth. We're here to celebrate each wobbly tooth and offer insights on what to expect. If snoring or mouth breathing are concerns, our comprehensive check-ups include an airway assessment, with referrals to specialists like ENTs if needed.

Creating Positive Dental Visits

We offer amenities tailored to our youngest patients to make each visit enjoyable. Noise-cancelling headphones muffle sounds that might be uncomfortable for kids, and "happy gas" (nitrous oxide) is available to ease any nerves.

Our dental team is always attuned to your child’s needs and ready to adjust our approach based on their comfort level. If rescheduling is the best option to ensure a positive experience, we prioritise your child’s long-term comfort over immediate procedures.

Utilizing the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)

young child getting dental work in warners bayFor children who are eligible under the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), we gladly bulk bill services with no gap fees. The CDBS is an Australian Government program providing up to $1,095 in benefits over two consecutive calendar years, covering most basic general dental services.

All children (under 18 years of age) who are NSW residents and eligible for Medicare can access public dental services in NSW, receiving the same high-quality care regardless of CDBS eligibility. Even if your CDBS benefits have been fully used, no fees are charged at NSW Health clinics.

Your child can access dental care under the CDBS through public dental clinics in NSW or through private dental providers like SmilesHQ. Using the CDBS at our Warners Bay clinic is easy and convenient, ensuring your child receives the highest standard of care.
